At Avenue Junior we believe that 'Every Child Matters'
This is reflected in everything we do at school. The Every Child Matters Agenda of Enjoying and Achieving, Staying Safe, Making a Positive Contribution, Being Healthy and Achieving Economic Prosperity, are at the forefront of how we lead and manage the school.
The school has four year groups of three classes, each of which is led by a Year Leader. Classroom Teachers have day to day responsibility for their class and will often be the first 'port of call' for parents who may want to raise an issue. Most issues are solved at this level, with the Class Teacher having an excellent knowledge of the class and all its pupils.
However, the Year Leader may become involved if the issue cannot be resolved easily.
The Deputy Head Teacher is the Pastoral Leader for the school, and she will also be on hand to help with any issues that arise. The Deputy shares the role of SENCO with Miss Alexander. They are both available for parents to speak to about particular Special Educational Needs for their child.
We also have the Cluster Parent Support Advisor, Jo Lawn, based at the school; she is able to help and assist parents with a range of support from helping with issues at home or school, to completing forms and reports, as well as liaising with the school or making home visits to help support any issues that might arise.
The Head is always available to listen to and speak with parents. Both the Head and Deputy are often in the playground at the start of the school day, but can be contacted at any time through the school.
Care, responsibility and emotional well-being are supported through lessons such as PSHE [Personal, Social and Health Education] as well as through our SEAL work [Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning].
We are always happy to meet with both parents and pupils to ensure that they are able to get the best out of their time at AJS.
