I would like to welcome you to the Trinity Academy web-site where you will find information on our school's aims and values, our educational provision in its widest sense and our many achievements.
Trinity Academy is a six year comprehensive school serving the north of Edinburgh. We have 900 pupils on our school roll and over 120 staff. The original Victorian building, which dates from 1893, was extended in 1965. A further extension and major refurbishment was completed in 1995 at a cost of £6.5 million. This produced a "one-site school" which is very well equipped to serve the pupils of the area in the 21st century.
Playing fields and changing rooms are at Bangholm, approximately five minutes walk from the school. This facility was upgraded in 2008 and pupils can now enjoy physical education in a modern, high quality environment. The floodlit, full size, all- weather pitch is a particularly valuable resource.
At Trinity, we are focused on developing the whole child and provide many opportunities for young people to achieve success. Through high quality learning and teaching from our committed and caring staff we provide a supportive and challenging educational experience. We have a strong record of academic achievement and provide a wide curriculum to meet the range of pupils' needs while our programme of extra-curricular activities, excursions and other activities enhance learning and develop a range of life skills.
The school is outward looking having established excellent links with the community and local business. Vocational preparation remains a high priority and we are one of the few schools in Edinburgh to provide work experience for all S4, S5 and S6 pupils. By the end of S6, some Trinity pupils will have participated in 3 weeks of domestic work experience as well as two placements in Europe. Each year approximately 60 pupils travel to Holland, Germany and Sweden to carry out European work experience directly in line with career aspirations. This is an excellent addition to any CV or University application.
Another exciting European initiative is the Pan European Education Project (PEEP) which allows senior students to form an International class with their peers from Greece, Hungary, Romania, Holland and the Ukraine. In 2008 the annual conference is in Budapest and this is an outstanding example of promoting gifted and talented young people.
Trinity Academy was the first Scottish school to be awarded the British Council "International School Award" and this year we have been invited to be part of the ELOS network( Europe as a learning Environment - translated from Dutch). This highly prestigious invitation means we will represent the UK from 2008 to 2011.
In ensuring your child is happy and successful at Trinity, we recognise the importance of strong partnerships with parents. All parents are welcome to contact the school at any time to discuss their child. We have an active and highly effective Parent Council which represents parents' interests and communicates widely through a variety of means, including this web-site.
Trinity Academy is a school at the heart of the local community with high expectations and aspirations. We are committed to ensuring that our pupils are challenged, successful and happy.
Alec Morris.
